New Faces at the Zoo: We're thrilled to announce the arrival of two precious newcomers to Reid Park Zoo's family. On January 15, we welcomed Moyo, a beautiful giraffe foal, into the world. Moyo is already captivating hearts with his playful antics and curious nature. Additionally, we joyously celebrated the birth of an elephant calf on March 8, adding another member to our elephant herd. Both Moyo and the elephant calf are thriving and can be spotted exploring their habitats alongside their doting mothers. Stay tuned as we reveal the chosen name for the elephant calf, selected through a public naming contest, on April 17. These births are not only cause for celebration but also crucial for the conservation efforts aimed at protecting these magnificent species in the wild.
Pathway to Asia Construction Begins: Excitement is building as we prepare to break ground on the Pathway to Asia addition on April 20. This transformative project marks a significant milestone for Reid Park Zoo, as it paves the way for immersive experiences that educate and inspire guests about the importance of conservation. The Pathway to Asia will introduce visitors to the fascinating wildlife of the world's largest continent, many of which are threatened or endangered species. From the playful red panda to the formidable Komodo dragon and elusive sand cats, guests will have the opportunity to learn about and appreciate the diversity of Asian wildlife. Additionally, we're thrilled to announce that tigers will be returning to the zoo, with a spacious and enriching habitat planned for their arrival. The Pathway to Asia promises to be an unforgettable journey that highlights the beauty and importance of preserving our planet's biodiversity.
